WICHITA SOUTHEAST SPORTS HALL OF FAME BY-LAWS

Mission Statement:

The Wichita Southeast High School Sports Hall of Fame award recognizes and honors outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches, and others who have made significant contributions to the athletic sports program and have been instrumental in promoting the growth of sports at Wichita Southeast High School.

Purpose of the Wichita Southeast High School Sports Hall of Fame

  1. To annually select and induct members to the Wichita Southeast High School Sports Hall of Fame.
  2. To nominate, select and provide induction procedures as well as determine the type of awards, presentations and permanent display of honors.
  3. To display to students and the public, the sports accomplishments of people who have been instrumental in creating an excellent sports tradition at Wichita Southeast High School.

Wichita Southeast High School Sports Hall of Fame Committee

  1.  General Function:

a.       The Sports Hall of Fame committee will govern and administer this program.

b.       The Sports Hall of Fame committee will establish policies and procedures necessary for the proper functioning of the Wichita Southeast High School Sports Hall of Fame.

c.       The Sports Hall of Fame committee will be the selection committee.  The committee will consist of a total of 7 individuals, selected from below:

·                 Wichita Southeast Athletic Director

·                 Head Coach of a Male Sport.

·                 Head Coach of a Female Sport.

·                 Alumni Association Board President or appointed member.

·                 Community members at large.

·                 After the inaugural year, a Member of the Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame Committee will have a minimum of five members and a maximum of seven.  Hall of Fame Committee members can have more than one of the roles listed above.  The Hall of Fame Committee is responsible that nominations and voting is done in a fair and proper manner.

Criteria for Membership

If a Sports Hall of Fame Committee member is nominated, he/she will be replaced on the committee during the voting process.

Athletes:

  1. The individual participated in Wichita Southeast High School athletics.
  2. Moral character, good citizenship, and academic performance during high school and post high school will be a consideration.
  3. Nominees into the Wichita Southeast High School Sports Hall of Fame will have graduated five or more years ago.
  4. Although athletic achievement while participating at Wichita Southeast High School is of prime importance, outstanding accomplishments after leaving Wichita Southeast High School may also be a factor in making the selection.

Coaches:

  1. Three years must elapse after completion of their tenure as a coach at Wichita Southeast High School before consideration is given for selection.
  2. They must be examples of good character and citizenship.
  3. The following factors will influence the selection of a coach:

a.       Number of years coaching at Wichita Southeast High School.

b.       Record while coaching at Wichita Southeast High School.

c.       Contribution to their respective sport and the Wichita Southeast High School Sports program.

Team:

  1. Any Wichita Southeast High School sports team that has brought distinction and honor to Wichita Southeast High School.
  2. There is no requirement that a team must be inducted each year.

Contributor:

  1. The individual has made an outstanding contribution to the Wichita Southeast High School Sports Program.
  2. The individual has had a significant impact on the sports program for Wichita Southeast High School.

Nomination Process:

  1. Nominations are open to the public.
  2. Nomination forms are available at the office of the Athletic Director, and anyone may submit a completed form to the Athletic Director for consideration.
  3. Nominations forms can also be obtained through all forms of Wichita Southeast High School publications and through the media.
  4. All nominations will remain on file and subject to be reviewed by the Hall of Fame Committee for 3 years.
  5. All nominations must be received by August 1. 
  6. The Sports Hall of Fame will have a maximum of 8 inductees in a given year.

Selection Process

Timetable

  1. Distribute nomination forms and questionnaires year-round.
  2. Collect information on nominees year-round.
  3. Deadline for nominations is August 1st.
  4. The HOF committee meets for the selection and voting Sept 1-September 15.
  5. Selection is by simple majority of the Hall of Fame committee.  In case of a tie, the Athletic Director will make the final decision.
  6. Inform Hall of Fame recipients by the end of September.
  7. Announce award winners to the media a month before presentation.
  8. Complete information for plaques and order by Oct. 1st.
  9. Award presentation to be held at a home basketball game in December or January.

 

Screening Procedure and Selection

  1. The athletic office will provide the Sports HOF committee members with copies of the current nomination forms and all other information by Aug 15 for their review and preparation for the selection meeting.
  2. At the selection meeting, the Hall of Fame committee will screen and discuss each nominee.  Voting will take place after this discussion.

 

Awards, Rights and Privileges of Membership:

  1. Two awards will honor each inductee.  A plaque will be presented to the inductee, the other award will be a picture and list of accomplishments to be placed on display in the area designated as the Wichita Southeast High School Sports Hall of Fame.
  2. A Wichita Southeast High School Sports Hall of Fame ring will be made available for purchase by the inductee.
  3. A lifetime pass will be given to the inductee and a guest to all Wichita Southeast High School home athletic events, except KHSAA tournaments and events.

 

Removal

  1. Removal from the Wichita Sports High School Hall of Fame will be voted on by the HOF committee with a simple majority vote.  In case of a tie, the Athletic Director will make the final decision.  The same procedure will be followed in removing a person from the Hall of Fame committee.

Change in Process

  1. Changes in process and procedures may be made by a two thirds majority vote of the Sports Hall of Fame committee.

Representation of Sports

  1. The goal of the Sports HOF is to induct the worthiest candidates.  No quota by sports is established.
