Southeast National Honor Society

What is the National Honor Society (NHS)?

  • The National Honor Society is a nationally recognized student organization that promotes academic excellence, leadership, service, and character. Established in 1921, NHS recognizes outstanding high school students who demonstrate excellence in these four areas.

How do I qualify to become a member of NHS?

  • You must have a cumulative 3.5 GPA after three semesters of high school. During the fourth semester of high school, applications will be sent out to all students who qualify.

Why Should I Join NHS?

  1. Academic Recognition – NHS membership is a prestigious honor that reflects your commitment to scholarship and learning.
  2. College Applications – NHS membership looks great on college and scholarship applications.
  3. Leadership Development – Gain opportunities to lead service projects and initiatives.
  4. Community Service – Participate in meaningful volunteer activities that make a difference.
  5. Networking – Connect with other motivated, high-achieving students.
  6. Scholarship Opportunities – NHS offers its own scholarships and can help you find others.

How does the application process work?

  • There are four aspects of the application process: the application, the 25-hour community service hours completed over the summer, 2 letters of recommendation, and paying dues. Once all four parts are turned in, at a later date, NHS will host inductions for all new members.

When are applications due?

  • For the 2025-2026 school year, applications will be due on September 12th. All aspects of the application, except for the dues, will need to be turned into Mrs. Lawless by September 12th.

If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Lawless at alawless@usd259.net.
