What’s a “Blog”?
  • An easily created, easily updateable Website that allows an author (or authors) to publish instantly to the Internet from any Internet connection. (Richardson, 2006)
3
Uses in School
  • For science, history, and even math, blogs could be used to integrate technology into tomorrows' classroom.

  • By using them as online journals, students can access assignments for a missed class or even utilize links to further learning.
4
Learning Journals
  • Learning journals are blogs that allow for collaboration between teachers.

  • Lets take History and English as examples.

  • If students are studying about World War II in History class, and are reading a novel for English, students could use the learning journals for both subjects and show relationships between the two subjects.  They could also be used as notes for both classes.

Benefits for the Teachers
  • Teachers
    • Benefits – appeal to student interest since many students have blogs already (Richardson, 2006)
    • Incorporation of Technology – new strategies
    • According to the 2005 National Speak up Survey, 62 percent of teachers responding agreed that technology is an asset to meeting NCLB standards. This study also identified that 47% of respondents believe that technology influences teaching and instructional support, while 25% of respondent teachers would be interested in teaching an online class (Rivera, 2006).
